The single most important reason to study History is that History teaches us to think.
Whether it is history of Asia, Europe, America, languages, the military, religion, or the arts – History enables us to think about the greatest question that humanity has ever asked: WHY?
Communities speak languages that we inherited from the past. Old English is a West Germanic language that was brought to Britain between the fifth to seventh centuries by invaders from Germany and the Netherlands.
Fast forward one thousand years later, the Early Modern English used by Shakespeare (in the 1500’s) had influences from the Latin, Ancient Greek and French languages.
We now live in societies with complex cultures, traditions and religions that have not been created at the spur of the moment.
We use technologies that we did not ourselves create or invent.
Biologically, we are each born with a unique variant of an inherited genetic template known as the genome, which has evolved during the entire journey of the human species.
Studying History allows us to look at our own reflection.
